Our Eco-Conscious Packaging
Good wine does not have to come at the cost of the environment. According to Jane Masters MW, co-author of Rooted in Change: The Stories Behind Sustainable Wine, “about 50% of wine’s carbon footprint is in its packaging and distribution.” We are dedicated to making production and business decisions that help to minimize the carbon footprint of our wine while not compromising quality.
No Capsule - No Problem
Historically foils or wax on the top of wine bottles was used to protect the cork from animals or mold. Today we’ve advanced in our wine storage technology, and now capsules are more for tradition and will just end up in the landfill. We have opted to bottle without the capsule to minimize waste.
Diam10 Origine Cork
There are 2.1 million hectares of cork oak forests across the Western Mediterranean Basin, acting as a carbon sink storing 14.7 million tons of carbon dioxide per hectare a year. That’s because cork trees are never cut down and their bark is harvested every nine to 12 years. Once the bark is harvested, the trees are actually healthier and absorb more carbon dioxide as they go into a growth mode.
Diam’s Origine eco-friendly cork option takes this a step further allowing for more of the harvested bark to be used than traditional corks. These corks are comprised of natural cork bound by bio-based polyols and beeswax and is OK Biobased 4 star certified. These corks are designed to meet the same standards as the traditional Diam line, and are covered by a 10 year mechanical warranty and meet low permeability specs.
Revino Reusable Bottles
Recycling is not cutting it anymore. 16.2 billion glass bottles & containers are consumed annually. 70% end up in landfills and less than 30% are recycled.
Producing a single-use glass wine bottle emits more carbon dioxide than the winemaking process itself. Reusing a bottle just 3 times will break even on carbon emissions.
Revino is a Willamette Valley based bottle reuse system pioneering reusable wine bottles in the United States. You’ll notice the bottles are heavier and uniquely marked and labeled reusable to allow sorting. When you finish your bottle of Finite Cellars wine, return it to a Revino bottle drop location. The bottles will be returned to Revino where they will be de-labeled, washed, sorted, and re-used.
If you are in Oregon, please return bottles to a return location.
If you do not live in Oregon, please recycle the bottles.
